MarMac HV Rock-RX

The Solution for

Unmanageable Amounts of

Used Growing Bags

Marshall Machinery has previously engineered and manufactured the ROCK-RX — a purpose-built substrate processing system developed to provide growers with a faster, more cost-effective and environmentally responsible way to process used horticultural growing bags and substrate.

Developed through years of research, engineering and industry collaboration, the ROCK-RX was designed to help specialist growers reduce manual handling, minimise waste and recover valuable growing media and organic material.

Building on this experience, Marshall Machinery is now developing the new HV Rock-RX — a high-volume horticultural waste processing system designed for significantly greater processing capacity and minimal manual handling.

The HV Rock-RX is being developed to allow whole loads of used growing bags and horticultural waste to be loaded using a telehandler, front-end loader, excavator or tractor-mounted equipment, rather than relying on manual feeding. The system is designed to automatically open, process, separate, refine and screen the incoming material into organic fines, lightweight plastic and heavy/oversize contaminants.

The HV Rock-RX is intended for high-volume commercial applications, including aged and heavily rooted growing bags used in strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, blackberry, tomato, capsicum and other protected cropping operations. It is also being developed with potential applications in commercial green waste, council, landscaping and waste-processing operations.

The system is designed around three key output streams:

  1. Organic Fines — coir, growing media, soil, fine roots and plant material.

  2. Lightweight Material — growing-bag plastic, plastic film and other lightweight contaminants.

  3. Heavy/Oversize Material — wood, stones, metal and other heavier contaminants.

With target processing rates of up to 60 m³ per hour under suitable conditions, the HV Rock-RX is being developed to significantly increase processing capacity while reducing manual handling and plastic contamination.

The HV Rock-RX is currently under development, with final specifications, configuration, throughput, dimensions, power requirements and component selection to be confirmed through detailed engineering and material testing. Machines are engineered and configured to suit the customer's requirements and intended application.
